Lovelace discusses parental abuse and it is unclear if she herself was the one that suffered from it, but I think it can hit home for many readers. It does deal with very heavy issues and there is a tone of feminism to it as well, but it doesn’t necessarily fall into the “in your face” category. The book is broken into four different parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen and you. Also, it doesn’t hurt to be familiarwith poetry. WARNING: The book does contain material that may be sensitive to readers and Lovelace does include a note in there to practice self-care before, during and after reading the book. There has been one book that I had the privilege of reading and it is called “The Princess Saves Herself in This One” by Amanda Lovelace.

Others may find their solace in fall weather by reading books.

It can mean wearing the newest fall trends or consuming as many pumpkin spiced lattes as one possibly can. But if you want to read more, you can find more book reviews here or you can visit my Instagram acccount to see what else I’m currently up to.Fall has come and it can mean different things for many college students. This review was a bit shorter than usual. Maybe reading them all in one sitting was not the best idea and I should’ve taken more breaks to give my unromantic mind a break from them – but I didn’t.Īpart from that the collection was a very enjoyable read – and it even contained some feminist poems that I really liked! Although the romance poems didn’t fit my personal taste “The Princess Saves Herself in This One” was a nice poetry book that I really enjoyed reading. I’m not a particularly romantic person and they were just too cheesy for my taste. However, the happy love poems got a little too much for me after a while.

After all my nonfiction and Virginia Woolf reads of the past few months it was great to finally have a nice, quick book that I could simply read and enjoy. It was also lovely to just sit down with “The Princess Saves Herself in This One” and read away. Lovelace employs fantastic metaphors and motifs drawing upon the fantasy genre to convey the struggles, characters and conflicts within her poetry. Though the books is fast paced and can easily be read in a few hours, the poems invite you to take breaks during or after the reading to think and reflect about them because of the themes they discuss. The poems of “The Princess Saves Herself in This One” are about trauma, abuse, survival, love, strength and artistry – among other topics.

It was just the right kind of book for me at the time. The poetry collection “The Princess Saves Herself in This One” by Amanda Lovelace was a quick read despite the heavy subjects it discusses.
